At least 60% of tanneries in Turkey remained inactive throughout the month of April owing to covid-19.

Leather manufacturers that have continued to produce have had to do so with fewer employees and with protection measures in place.

Measures to prevent the spread of covid-19 have also affected finished product manufacturers, alt-hough reports from local industry observers say some footwear factories have remained open to meet domestic and export demand.

Commentators have also talked about widespread confusion among buyers and sellers of hides and skins over prices, which have fallen to very low levels.
