Círculo Fortuny president falls victim to Covid-19
The president of the Círculo Fortuny, Carlos Falcó, has fallen victim to Covid-19. He died on March 20. He was 83 years old.
Carlos Falcó was the Marquis of Griñón and ran a famous wine company that bore his title. He took up the presidency of the Círculo Fortuny, a wide-ranging group representing all segments of the luxury sector in Spain, in 2011.
He spoke passionately of the need for Spanish luxury companies to build up their brands and reach a global audience. He was frequently complimentary of the luxury leatherwoods brand Loewe, a founder member of the Círculo Fortuny, saying the company’s commitment to using local talent and local raw materials served as a good example of what luxury companies can do.
He insisted there was a good chance that Ubrique, in the province of Cádiz, a place with a long tradition of artisan leathergoods manufacture, may have lost its traditional industry if not for support from Loewe.
