Circular Glasgow to “enhance momentum” virtually ahead of COP26
A partnership called Circular Glasgow, in which the Scottish Leather Group is a leading participant, took part in a virtual event in the first week in June with partner cities, including Toronto, Barcelona, São Paulo and (virtual) host, London.
Alison McRae, a senior director at Glasgow Chamber of Commerce who plays a lead role in Circular Glasgow, has said taking part in initiatives like this can give businesses a competitive advantage and help them unlock a value estimated at $4.5 trillion globally.
She said Circular Glasgow will take part in further virtual trade missions “to enhance momentum and scale” ahead of the twenty-sixth United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which the Scottish city will host in November 2021. The event was to take place this November but has been postponed for a year because of covid-19.
“It is clear that the current linear systems will not support solutions to our global challenges,” Ms McRae said, “and the circular economy presents a fundamental economic model shift, which means rethinking and transforming full value chains to create waste-less and restorative systems.”
