Some manufacturers reopen in Italy, tanners have to wait
Italy’s government announced the first phase of a reopening of its economy immediately after Easter, on April 14, following weeks of almost total lockdown for covid-19.
Tanneries are not among the manufacturers permitted to restart production in this first phase, although World Leather has reports of a limited number of operators being allowed to run liming and tanning drums to process fresh hides.
Reports from important tanning regions, including Veneto, suggest that a full return to production could take place on May 4.
