Athleisure drives Ecco to ‘successful’ year
Danish shoe brand and tannery owner Ecco has reported a “successful” 2019 with sales of €1.4 billion and profit of €196 million, figures that are largely flat with 2018.
Steen Borgholm, Ecco’s CEO, said: “Our global strategy with regional and local adaptations proved successful, and not least the growing hybrid and athleisure categories were successful.”
Towards the end of 2019, Ecco bought its Russian distributor, Ecco Ros, to take over their business in Russia and neighbouring countries.
It is investing heavily technology as “sustainability and digitalisation will be shaping the shoe industry”.
“We are ready for this development, and it is already in Ecco’s DNA to conduct business in a way that minimises the impact on the environment,” says Steen Borgholm.
He admitted that the company expects to see a strong impact from Covid-19 in this year’s results.
“Right now, however, the top priority remains the health and safety of our employees. We deeply appreciate the commitment of the people and organisations that are addressing this health emergency, and our thoughts are with all those affected,” added Mr Borgholm.
