New Zealand-based meat processors Greenlea and Wilson Hellaby have partnered a third company, Glendenburg Holdings, to buy Wallace’s tannery, rendering and composting businesses.

The hides and skins arm will be renamed Waitoa Tannery.

The Wallace Group Tannery was established in 1992, specialises in wet blue and exports worldwide. In 2017 Wallace Corporation and Farm Brands merged to create Wallace Group Limited Partnership.

Greenlea employs 460 staff across its two beef processing plants in Hamilton and Morrinsville.

Greenlea managing director, Tony Egan said: “It is great to be ensuring existing employment, creating new jobs, and supporting the local community during this difficult economic period.

“There will be approximately 100 staff employed across all business activities at the Waitoa, Fielding and Northland sites. The three partners share in a vision to grow jobs and value of production for New Zealand exports and domestic requirements.”
