Ecco Leather to make design event virtual but still hands-on

19/06/2020

The leather manufacturing division of footwear group Ecco has said it will go ahead with its Hot-Shop design event this year in spite of the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus.

Ecco Leather has hosted designers from around the world at its headquarters in the Netherlands at its Hot-Shop events each year for the last 12 years, teaching creative people the basics of making leather and giving them hands-on opportunities to work with leather. The objective is to inspire them to use leather extensively in their work when they return home.

The thirteenth edition will go ahead virtually, but still with a high level of practical content, from July 7-10.

Invited designers and other innovators will receive samples of leather before Hot-Shop starts. They will then attend exclusive, digital classes on subjects such as the tanning process and design techniques. There will also be a 24/7 livestream connection to the Ecco Leather tannery in Dongen.

Participants will work together in virtual rooms to design concepts, which will then be developed with ECCO Leather’s own designers and technicians.
