Automotive CEO issues ‘buy Chinese’ appeal
The president of automotive group Changan Auto, Zhu Huarong, has issued for celebrities and officials in China to choose Chinese brands when buying a new car.
Car sales in China in the first four months of this year reached 5.75 million, a decrease of more than 30% compared to the same period last year. Figures for the month of April were more than 1.5 million, but only 34.6% of these were sales of Chinese-branded cars.
During the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress in Beijing at the end of May, Mr Zhu said Chinese brands have worked hard to improve the quality of their cars and their after-sales service and could now compete very well against international brands.
He said high-profile figures choosing Chinese brands would help boost the image of companies such as his.
