SLG aims to reduce water usage with £3m deal

Scottish Leather Group, the largest manufacturer of leather in the UK, has renewed a water supply contract with a local water supplier aimed at helping to build on water efficiency activities and provide effluent support.

The contract, signed with Edinburgh-based Business Stream, is worth over £3 million. The water supplier recently pledged to help customers reduce water use by 20%, and last year it was awarded the Waterwise Water Efficiency Checkmark.

Dr Warren Bowden, sustainability and innovation director at SLG, said the group has worked hard to reduce its water use to half the European industry average and will continue to work with Business Stream to identify more environmental and operational efficiencies.
