Meat plant workers suffer new infections
The Brazilian government has recommended that workers at food factories keep at least a metre apart, following a rise in the number of cases of coronavirus.
The Ministry of Agriculture’s new rules also state factories should ask anyone suspected of having been infected to isolate for 14 days, according to news agency Reuters.
Meanwhile, Germany has increased its infection rate to above 2, following more than 1,500 cases at a meat factory in Gütersloh.
In Wales, more than 200 cases have been confirmed at factory run by 2 Sisters Food Group, which accounts for about a third of UK chicken production.
Some observers suggest meat factories have been particularly hard hit by the virus for several reasons, including close working conditions and a high proportion of workers who live or travel together.
