Luxury group Kering has opened a new laboratory in Prato in Tuscany at which it will carry out chemical, physical and biological testing of products and materials, including leather, for its brands.

Italian media quoted Kering as saying that, with the importance of testing increasing, it had decided to set up its own dedicated testing centre. It will call the new facility its Test and Innovation Laboratory (TIL).

Italian sources said Kering had chosen Prato as TIL’s location because a testing services operator there recently closed, making some of its experienced and well qualified research staff available for Kering to hire.

TIL is likely to open for service to Kering-group brands in the first half of 2021.
