Brazilian cattle slaughter up in 2019 despite slow last quarter

25/02/2020

Brazil’s total cattle slaughter in 2019 was 32.4 million head, the highest figure in the South American country since 2014, when the total was 33.9 million. The figures come from the national statistics agency, IBGE.

The agency pointed out that the high level of cattle slaughter in 2019 came about in spite of a much slower fourth quarter. Between October and December, Brazilian abattoirs slaughtered just over 8 million, a decline of 5.4% compared to the third quarter of 2019 and of 1.8% compared to the fourth quarter of 2018.
