Dior video shows steps behind Bobby bag

To introduce the latest addition to Dior’s leather goods, the Italian luxury brand has brought consumers up close to the process and materials involved. A video on the Dior website takes viewers from an early sketch of the Dior Bobby, through the tracing and cutting of leather, to the adding of hardware and completion of the bag.

Box calfskin is used for its “sense of naturalness and uniqueness”, the brand said. “Its highly-refined grain and silky-smooth feel mean that only the most flawless examples can be used.”

The leather is cut out using patterns, then the pieces are assembled and sewn one at a time. The ‘30 Montaigne’ signature is relief embossed (pictured) and finished by hand.

The bag is named for Christian Dior’s dog, Bobby, whose name has been given to other Dior looks. (“Each collection contained a suit earmarked for success called ‘Bobby’,” Mr Dior is said to have written in his memoirs.)

The Dior Bobby will debut with the launch of the Fall 2020 collection.
