Brazil can benefit from new sourcing tactics, says tanner

Brazilian tanner Rafael Coelho from Curtume Moderno anticipates that there will be some normality in terms of the leather pipeline in the next three to six months as fashion buying resumes, and that Brazil should be well-placed to take advantage.

He made the comments in the first video of a new series in the Brazilian Leather project, #LeatherForward, which is organised by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) in partnership with Apex-Brasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency).

“I’m sure that we as a society will learn to live with coronavirus, although differently to today,” he said.

“In terms of the international markets, there will be changes in buying and selling based on the producing centres and consuming centres and this should help us.”

He added that Brazil’s exchange rate will also help to make it attractive.
