Geographical spread lets ISA TanTec overcome China closure
Tanning group ISA TanTec is another that has found a way round the enforced closure of a tannery in China by using its facilities in other countries to complete orders.
ISA TanTec has confirmed that, like other leather manufacturers in China, it was unable to re-open its tannery at Heshan in Guangdong Province after the Lunar New Year holiday because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
It received permission from the authorities partly to re-open its Chinese tannery on February 10, with safety protocols in place. These include regular temperature checks on personnel, mask protection, disinfection of the facilities and a restriction on visitors.
It said it had managed to minimise any negative impact on its customers by transferring part of the production it intended to carry out in Heshan to its tanneries in the US and Vietnam instead.
