Partnership will help TFL push forward with printing onto leather
Leather chemicals group TFL has entered into a partnership with imaging systems company Agfa. They will work together to develop an inkjet printing solution that will work on leather.
They have said their joint-project, which they have called Alussa, will help fashion, upholstery, automotive, aviation, nautical and other users of leather employ inkjet printing to decorate and personalise the materials they want to incorporate into their products.
Agfa’s contribution to Alussa is to develop inkjet printer technology and inks, as well as the software to manage and monitor the printing process. TFL will provide the coating chemistry that will make sure the Agfa technology will work on leather.
“Fashion trends are changing fast and it seems that the desire for individualisation is increasing year by year,” said TFL’s head of product marketing, Markus Hess. “This is a big challenge and also an opportunity for the leather industry.”
The two companies are presenting Alussa at the Simac-Tanning Tech exhibition in Milan from February 19-21.
