1,700 entries to LVMH competition
From 1,700 entries, judges of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers has whittled the list down to 20 semi-finalists, who will present their work in Paris at the end of February.
Entries came from 110 nationalities, with the semi-finalists representing Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, France, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, the UK, the US, Vietnam and – for the first time – Argentina.
Delphine Arnault said all finalists share an innovative vision. “They are resolutely focused on the future, in terms of their research into new materials, use of bio-textiles or recycled fibres, concern for new artisanal techniques, and desire for local, reasoned production. These initiatives speak to a growing awareness across the fashion and luxury sector, and reflect the values of environmentally conscious fashion.”
The semi-finalists will attend the LVMH Group headquarters on February 27 and 28. The 68-strong international panel of experts will choose eight brands to go forward to the final of the prize, which will be held on June 5, 2020, at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
The winner of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers receives €300,000 and benefits from a one-year mentorship programme.
In December, LVMH selected a French artist to spend six months in a tannery as part of its artist in residence programme, Métiers d’Art.
Raphaël Barontini, currently presenting his first solo exhibition in the US at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, will work with the Heng Long Leather Tannery in Singapore to learn more about crocodile leather.
