Bangladeshi ministers show concern over lack of raw material

The leather industry in Bangladesh achieved export revenues of just under $560 million in the first seven months of the current financial year, July 2019 to January 2020. This represents a decline of 10.8% year on year.

Government ministers there have expressed concern about difficulties local tanners are having in sourcing raw material, owing to the slow-down in the movement of goods from China. Local media have reported that four government ministers met recently with representatives of the country’s hide traders and tanners to discuss alternative sources of raw material.
