California lifestyle brand wants 100% LWG leather by 2021
Leather and crochet bag brand The Sak has outlined details of its mission to be increasingly socially and environmentally responsible, which include steps taken within the brand’s leather supply chain.
By 2021, the brand plans for 100% of its leather to come from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries. Currently, 87% of the leather The Sak uses is sourced from LWG tanneries, which take into account environmentally friendly processes, labor conditions and sustainable water usage.
The brand will also focus on natural materials, working with vegetable tanned leathers and up-cycled leathers.
A number of other initiatives are underway to help all aspects of the business reach its overall goal of 100% sustainability by 2029.
