Responsible, high-quality leather is the promise of new Stahl portfolio

Leather chemicals manufacturer Stahl has placed a number of its existing chemicals in a new portfolio of products that cover every stage in the beamhouse process, from soaking, liming and deliming to bating. It has given the range the name BeTan.

At the time of the launch, Stahl said BeTan underlines the company’s commitment to using
“responsible chemistry” to improve the environmental impact of the leather supply chain.

Benefits on offer include a reduction in water consumption and increased efficiency in beamhouse and tanning processes, without compromising on the quality of the finished leather.

Chief executive, Huub van Beijeren, said: “It’s increasingly important to drive sustainability in the production of high-quality leather. The easy-to-apply technologies in our BeTan portfolio support tanners in lowering the impact of their operations at every step of the leather-making process.”

For his part, the manager of the company’s beamhouse business, David Sabaté, said the portfolio will also help tanners reduce their use of sulfides, solids and salt, resulting in decreased chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand at a tannery’s wastewater treatment plant.

Products included in the portfolio include Bemanol, Eusapon, Feliderm, Proviera - Probiotics for Leather, Stahl EasyWhite Tan, Stahl EasyBlue Tan, Mollescal, Tergolix, Decaltal, Dekalon, Basozym, Relugan, Synektan, Tanfix, Basyntan, Imprapell and Sortassist.
