Lanxess set out to secure brand support for leather at Cologne event

Leather chemicals manufacturer Lanxess has said a large number of representatives of leading brands were among the 90 delegates who attended its fifth industry symposium, which this year took place in Cologne on January 20 and 21.

Lanxess said this was part of its ongoing commitment to engage brands and other stakeholders in supporting leather as “a valued material”. Its overall objective was to provide a better understanding of leather as a material to brands, especially with regard to the use of chemicals, and to raise awareness of the fundamental differences between leather and synthetic materials.

Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer, who is responsible for leather industry relations at Lanxess, opened the event with a presentation about sustainability and social responsibility, pointing out the changes that are taking place as economies move from a linear model to a more circular, zero-waste one.
