Order books fill up following Istanbul and Izmir fairs

27/01/2020
Leather industry observers in Turkey have said two January exhibitions have gone well, with indications of an increase in demand for leather for accessories and, in particular, for garments.

First, tanners and finished leather product brands took part in Le Show Istanbul 2020 in the country’s biggest city, running from January 16-18.

Exhibitors reported high levels of interest from buyers from the European Union, Russia and China, particularly in nappa and lamb double-face articles for garments.

Then, from January 21-23, the industry’s focus shifted to Izmir, where an event called Leather and More took place. Here, too, garment leathers and finished pieces were on display, as were materials and finished products for handbag, belt and small accessory collections.

The organisers of the Izmir event had an international buyer programme, offering flights and accommodation for buyers from overseas.

Exhibitors said the two exhibitions had helped them generate enough orders to fill their production programmes for 2020, which they said was extremely welcome after two slow years.
