Protocol in place for new North American trade agreement

Mexico, the US and Canada reached agreement on a new three-way trade deal to replace NAFTA on December 10, when senior representatives of all three governments signed a protocol agreement at a ceremony in Mexico City.

If the agreement secures the approval at congressional level in each of the three countries, the new trade deal will come into effect. Some commentators  have said they believe this could happen before the end of the year.
