Nine footwear technology bodies to work together
29/11/2019
These research bodies, which have frequently been rivals in the past, announced they would work together at the 2019 general assembly of European Footwear Federation (CEC), which took place in Brussels in late November.
“The competitiveness of the European footwear sector depends on the development of new discoveries,” CEC said at the time of the announcement, “and on its ability to translate these discoveries into materials, processes and products that support its growth and improve the quality of life of its consumers.”
It said it hopes regular exchanges of information among specialists will help steer a path towards this innovation and, from there, towards “a new generation of high-value, European footwear products”.
Members of the new technology platform will be CTC from France, CTCP from Portugal, CTCR from Spain, the Footwear Research Centre of Tomas Bata University from the Czech Republic, INESCOP from Spain, Politecnico Calzaturiero from Italy, PFI Pirmasens from Germany, Lukasiewicz-IPS Institute of Leather Industry from Poland and SATRA from the UK.
With the support of CTC, they will now set a clear research agenda and organise working groups on strategic topics such as advanced materials, innovative design solutions, better fit and comfort, smart technologies and a more sustainable and circular product lifecycle.
The initiative is open to other industry-related technology centres and interested organisations are welcome to apply by contacting CEC.
