Negative numbers on most of India’s leather exports

India’s leather industry has recorded export revenues of just under $2.3 billion for the first five months of the current fiscal year, April-August.

Compared to the period a year earlier, this represents a decline of 5.1%.

Finished leather exports fell in value by almost 30%, reaching $237.7 million. The figure for leather footwear was a fall of 4.4%, with export revenues of $937.1 million. Leather garments brought in export revenues of $190.2 million, down by 12.1% year on year.

Exports of leathergoods, however, increased in value to $585 million, a rise of more than 6%.
