Leather garment export growth helps Pakistan

21/11/2019
Export figures for the leather industry in Pakistan show revenues of $285.9 million for the first four months of the current financial year, July-October. This represents an increase of 4% year on year. However, finished leather’s contribution to the total diminished.

Tanners exported 6.7 million square-metres of finished leather over the four-month period,  a decline of 2.6%  compared to the same months in 2018. In terms of value, the decline was much steeper, $51.9 million compared to $86 million, a fall of almost 40%.

Exports of finished leather products, excluding footwear, rose in value by 12.9% to reach $160.8 million. Growth in shipments of leather garments was an important factor in this increase.

With regard to shoes, there was an increase of 52% in the volume of pairs exported, while the export revenues shoe manufacturers brought in went up by 18% to reach $45.2 million.
