Per capita beef consumption in Argentina falls by 10%

21/11/2019
Argentina’s main beef industry representative body, Ciccra, has reported cattle slaughter of more than 11.4 million head in the first ten months of 2019, an increase of 2.3% compared to the same period last year. October’s total, 1.3 million head, represents growth of 8.7% compared to the same month in 2018.

Ciccra said 25% of the beef Argentina produces is currently going for export. It said that domestic consumption for the first ten months of this year equated to 51.4 kilos of beef per person per year. This is a decrease of almost 10% compared to the  previous year, but still represents what the organisation called “a very good level of consumption” in the domestic market.
