Steep decline in leather exports from Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s leather industry earned export revenues of $316.9 million in the first four months of the current financial year, July-October 2019.

This represents a decline of 8.2% compared to the same period last year. The decline for leather footwear was of 12%, falling to $190 million and the fall for finished leather was much steeper, 24.7%, reaching $42.7 million.

In contrast, finished leathergoods registered an increase of 16% to almost $85 million.
