Steep rise in Clarks losses
Footwear brand Clarks has reported turnover of £790 million for the 12 months to February 2019, a fall of 3.7% compared to its previous fiscal year. The company recorded a loss after tax of  £20.9 million; it linked this substantially increased loss to a revenue to costs related to running its shops.

More than 70% of group turnover came from sales of shoes in the UK and Ireland, but sales in these key markets were down by 6.3% compared to the previous year.

The company said a challenging retail picture was affecting it and added that the UK’s relationship with the European Union was making matters still more complicated.
