Double-digit growth of Japanese leathergoods imports

Newly released figures show that Japanese manufacturers imported hides, semi-finished and finished leather with a value of $15.5 million in the first seven months of the year, a decline of 18.6% compared to the same months in 2018.

Over the same months, Japan exported leather worth $12 million, down by 13.5% year on year.

The country’s imports of bags and other leathergoods had a value of more than $600 million between January and July, which represents an increase of 12.6%. And over the same period, Japan imported footwear worth more than $525 million, up by 3.5%.

Its exports of bags and other leathergoods also increased, bringing in $8.25 million, an increase of 9.4%. Exports of footwear had a value of $56 million, down by 9.5%.
