Growth in international markets for French handbags

27/09/2019
France’s main leather sector body, the Conseil National du Cuir, has published the industry’s results for the first half of 2019.

Finished leathergoods continue to be France’s big success story, achieving export revenues of €4 billion in the six-month period, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year.

Handbags contributed 59% of this total and achieved year-on-year growth of 23% in their own right. Hong Kong, Singapore and the US, in that order, were the three main export markets for these products.

In the first half of this year, French leathergoods brands exported 2.5 million leather handbags, with an average price per piece of €609.
