Official figures show that livestock farmers in the US sent just over 22 million cattle to slaughter in the first eight months of 2019, an increase of 1.2% compared to the same months in 2018.
Hogs were up by 2.8% to almost 83.8 million between January and August. The figure for sheep, at just over 1.3 million represented an increase of 2.1%.
