Brazil attempts to bite back on Amazon

25/09/2019
In response to widespread negativity and buyers’ boycotts (including of leather) over Brazil’s handling of forest fires and deforestation in Amazon regions, the country’s government has launched a counter-campaign.

President Jair Bolsonaro’s government hired a public relations and marketing agency called Calia Y2K Propaganda, who soon came up with ‘Brazil by Brazil’ that will form a campaign for television and newspapers.

Comments in the build-up to a speech by Mr Bolsonaro to the United Nations General Assembly New York in the last week in September suggest that he wanted to put across two main messages: that Brazil can take responsibility for its own affairs without external influence, and that it  does take care  of the Amazon.
