Australian beef exports up by more than 5%

09/09/2019
Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has described August as “another huge month” for the country’s beef exports.

In the course of the month, 106,000 tonnes of Australian beef shipped to overseas markets. The total for the first eight months of 2019 was 790,000 tonnes, an increase of 5.5% compared to the same months in 2018.

MLA said this rise was “unsurprising, given the level of domestic stock liquidation and price support from international demand”. The weather forecast for the next three months in cattle-rearing regions of Australia is for dry conditions to continue, so slaughter and exports will most likely remain “elevated”, the promotional organisation added.

China’s demand for Australian beef is particularly strong, up by 69% year on year in the first eight months. There were also increases in shipments to the US, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.
