Major leather chemicals announcement from Lanxess

Its factory at Newcastle in South Africa, which employs 220 people and makes sodium dichromate, will transfer to Brother Enterprises as part of the deal. Another factory in South Africa, the one at Merebank, will remain under Lanxess’s ownership and the company has said it will continue to manufacture chrome tanning salts there, on a contract basis for Brother Enterprises, ostensibly until 2024.
Commenting on the proposed sale of the business, which generates revenues of around €100 million per year, Lanxess chairman, Matthias Zachert, said: “We have successfully reorganised our chrome chemicals business in recent years, however it no longer fits in with our strategic focus on specialty chemicals. We are convinced that future growth and the further development of the business can be better implemented under the leadership of Brother Enterprises.”
