River water is cleaner after Elmo Leather production than before

Cruise ship operators are becoming an important customer group for Swedish tanner Elmo Leather.

In recent comments to specialist media, the company’s sales and marketing director, Jimmy Ahlgren said cruise ship companies have found cheaper upholstery materials to need frequent replacement and have increasingly turned to high-quality leather for their interiors instead.

He said that leather such as that provided by Elmo can last for as long as 15 years on a cruise ship but is easy to maintain and, therefore, works out cheaper for a ship’s operator in the long-run.

In terms of environmental credentials, he pointed out that wastewater from Elmo Leather is clean enough to go into a local river after production. He said the company’s wastewater treatment is so effective that the water is cleaner when it goes back into the river than when it comes out.
