US negotiates increase in duty-free access to Europe for its beef

The United States will be able to nearly triple its annual duty-free exports of beef to the European Union (EU) over the next seven years under a new agreement signed in early August in Washington.

It said it expects duty-free exports to grow in value from $150 million to $420 million per year when the agreement is fully implemented.

In terms of volume, US farmers will initially be able to ship 18,500 tonnes of beef per year duty free to the European Union but over the course of the seven-year agreement, this will increase to 35,000 tonnes per year.
