New Gemata engraved cylinders promise less topcoat waste

Tanning machinery manufacturer Gemata has developed a new series of engraved cylinders specifically for the application of topcoat on automotive leathers. It will have the series on display at the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai (September 3-5).

According to Gemata, the new products, which it calls PR cylinders, prevent waste of the chemicals tanners use in top-coating operations to an extent that was beyond the capacity of previous-generation cylinders. They can work in reverse too and, therefore, can ensure what the company has referred to as “an exceptional covering effect that allows the distribution of the chemical product to all points of the hide”.

“They are particularly suitable for use on full-grain leathers,” the company has said, “or on leathers with light embossing. They can apply a uniform coverage without flattening the finish, while maintaining the naturalness of the leather.”
