Based at Avoudrey near the border between France and Switzeland, SIS launched in 1998 with the merger of three separate companies, Supercuir, IWD and Softline Box. Its specialist product is high-end watch straps from material such as alligator skin, which it supplies to luxury watch brands across the border in Switzerland. It makes accessories too.
SIS employes 1,000 people in France, 400 in Madagascar and 300 in China.
On taking up the presidency of FFM, Mr Tolo said: “Leathergoods companies represent a wonderful part of the industrial fabric of France but 90% of them are small or medium-sized enterprises and they have need of a dynamic federation to help them promote and extract value from their own excellence.”
In 2017, France had 448 leathergoods manufacturers that collectively employed almost 21,000 people and had a combined turnover of €3.2 billion.
