Mercosur and EU reach agreement on trade

They said a new trade framework is now in place, which will create “significant opportunities for sustainable growth on both sides, while respecting the environment and preserving interests of sensitive economic sectors”.
Outgoing president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said on making the announcement: “I measure my words carefully when I say that this is a historic moment. In the midst of international trade tensions, we are sending a strong signal with our Mercosur partners that we stand for rules-based trade.”
He explained that this is the largest trade agreement the EU has ever concluded and will save companies and consumers around €4 billion per year in duties.
