The facility was producing 2,500 tonnes of hamburgers per month in April. This increased to 3,000 tonnes in May and the company has said it will increase this volume to 5,500 tonnes per month by the end of 2019.
Marfrig chief executive, Miguel Gularte, said the company had achieved this increase in capacity by modelling its production methods on those that National Beef has in place in the US. Marfrig acquired a controlling stake in National Beef in April 2018.
