Special Shanghai show celebrates Fendi-Lagerfeld connection
Leathergoods brand Fendi presented its 2019-2020 women’s and men’s collections in Shanghai recently, using the event to celebrate the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February.

This was the first time Fendi had presented its men’s and women’s collections at one runway show. It said afterwards that using the Powerlong Museum, a centre for showing the international contemporary art collection of Xu Jiankang, the owner of the Powerlong property company, helped make the idea a success.

“Fendi and China have had a special relationship,” said the leathergoods brand’s chief executive, said Serge Brunschwig, “since the show on the Great Wall in 2007, and we are proud to celebrate this unique moment in this magic country.”

Entitled ‘Roma in Shanghai’, the idea was to transport guests to the heart of Rome, where Fendi has its roots, using models of emblematic Roman monuments and symbols, all custom-built for the show.

In this way, Fendi sought to celebrate the heritage of Karl Lagerfeld, his “unparalleled creativity” and his 54-year collaboration with the brand, which the company says is the longest in fashion history.
