Argentina: cattle slaughter down in Q1

03/06/2019
Official figures from Argentina show that the country’s abattoirs slaughtered just over 3 million head of cattle in the first three months of 2019.

Compared to the same months in 2018, this represents a decline of 5.8%.

Packers in Argentina produced 701,000 tonnes of beef between January-March 2019. While this is 6.1% lower than the figure for the same months last year, industry observers have pointed out that the volume of Argentinean beef that went for export during the quarter, almost 150,000 tonnes, represents a rise of 35%.
