Sheepskin association merges with Leather UK
The UK’s Real Sheepskin Association (RSA) has merged with Leather UK, the wider national trade association for the leather industry. Leather UK said the merger will strengthen its industry presence with what it described as more than 20 world-class new members joining its ranks.

It pointed out that joining forces with RSA will also create stronger representation for lobbying purposes. It said it will maintain the RSA brand and website in the short term and will undertake specific promotions, education and lobbying activities, plus background administration for the RSA.

Honorary secretary of the RSA, Peter Robinson, said at the time of the announcement: “Since its formation in 1988, the RSA has been extraordinarily successful in promoting UK sheepskin. Although the industry has greatly changed, woolskins remain a timeless, natural material – renewable, sustainable, iconic – which has much to teach us about how we look after our endangered planet on behalf of future generations.”

For his part, the director of UK Leather, Dr Kerry Senior, said: “We are delighted to continue the good work done by Peter Robinson and his colleagues at the RSA. We are looking forward to promoting the excellent manufacturers, designers and retailers making and using UK sheepskin, and ensuring the future of this versatile, sustainable, wonderful product.”
