Trade surplus up for China in Q1

The total value of China’s exports across all sectors reached $550 billion in the first quarter of 2019. This figure represents an increase of 1.4% compared to the first three months of 2018.

Imports over the same three months fell in value by 4.8% year on year, according to official figures, reaching $475 billion.

China’s trade surplus for the January-March 2019 period was, therefore, $75 billion, which is 70% higher than it was in the same period last year.
