Customised Porsche the highlight of Berluti auction
26/04/2019
The selection has been hand-chosen by specialists at auction house Sotheby’s, which has described the sale as “a unique opportunity to acquire incredibly rare pieces from landmark moments throughout the luxury shoemaker’s history.”
It has said the Porsche 911 from 1973 is the “standout lot”. It is the first car to be fully customised by Berluti and it features the distinctive Berluti patina that Olga Berluti first created in 1962. The Berluti logo adorns the glove compartment door, while there is a ‘B’ logo on the steering wheel and key fob. It comes with special accessories, including a pair of driving shoes and a weekend bag.
Bidding for the Porsche 911 opened at €120,000. At the time of writing, seven bids had seen the leading offer raised to €190,000.
Other lots in the auction include a leather club chair with accompanying cigar box, cigar case and slippers; a football, backpack and pair of shoes signed by French football star Paul Pogba; and a Triumph motorcycle with leather-sheathed helmet and boots. There are also a number of Hublot watches with Berluti leather straps.
The ‘Berluti: The Art of Craftsmanship’ auction is being held exclusively online from April 24 to May 7. The full exhibition is on view at Sotheby’s Paris premises from April 24-29.
