The new plant is working from wet white or wet blue to finished leather. Wollsdorf already has 200 workers there.
Its initial investment in the Mexican production facility was €20 million, but the company has said it intends to invest a further €20 million in a second phase of development in León and expand production there to 15,000 hides per week.
Wollsdorf Leather has said it also intends to expand production at its original plant in Austria and has pointed out that, in Mexico, it will be able to get used to any changes to its production flows that new technologies and tanning machines will demand before rolling out the new technology in Austria too.
In addition, Wollsdorf Leather has celebrated strong growth in the US market, where it now has a dedicated showroom. The company has said it projects turnover of $9 million in the US market in 2019. By 2022, it believes its turnover in the US will be closer to $15 million per year.
