UNIC pleased with leather industry’s employment performance in 2018

Official government statistics for 2018 show a slow-down in growth for Italy’s economy, but national tanning industry association, UNIC, has said the leather industry’s competitiveness and export performance were above the national average.

One of the areas that UNIC has pointed to as an indication of a positive performance is employment. Without releasing detailed statistics, it said more leather manufacturing companies either increased or kept steady their employment levels in 2018 compared to those that lowered their employee numbers.

The latest UNIC figures suggest that the tanning industry employs around 18,000 people in Italy across 1,200 companies.
