The new issue of World Leather is now available
The February/March 2019 issue of World Leather magazine is now available online. The full e-zine can be accessed here.

This issue includes an in-depth look at the state of the automotive leather market. With the tanning industry facing severe headwinds in other markets, this sector has remained a shining light. We explore how strong sales of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) have offered a boost to leather, but caution that the road ahead might not be as smooth.

In the magazine’s technical section, we hear about how crucial the effluent treatment plant occupied by Acque del Chiampo is to the Arzignano tanning district in Italy and how significant investment is ensuring this will continue to be the case.

Other technical articles include an update from tannery machinery provider Mercier Turner about its Newsplit splitting machine and information from Smit & zoon about the LIFE BIOPOL project, which aims to turn agricultural by-products into biopolymers.

Our team has been on the road a great deal during the first few months of 2018 and we bring our readers reports from events including the Lanxess leather symposium in Cologne, the India International Leather Fair in Chennai and the Lineapelle London exhibition. There is also news about an exciting project in Nigeria that could stimulate the leather sector in one of the country’s states.

This issue’s Beast to Beauty feature puts the spotlight on Spanish leathergoods brand Lautem, which was launched in 2013 by an experienced architect. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement and manufactured by artisans in the Spanish town of Ubrique, the brand’s products have a fascinating quality.
