European car sales fall by 5% in January

In the same month, all passenger vehicle brands recorded a combined total of 1.1 million new car sales in the US, 2.1% down year on year.
The corresponding figure for Japan was just over 340,000 new passenger vehicles, which represents an increase of 1%.
Figures for the Chinese market, the biggest automotive market in the world, are not yet available owing to the Chinese new year holiday.
